Area motorists travelling on I-220 and Swan Lake Rd. will be looking at a series of detours and closures beginning in about two weeks while contractors begin a project to widen the lanes on Swan Lake beneath the I-220 overpass.

Equipment has been put in place and preparations are being made to begin boring for a water line beside the Linton Rd. bridge. Contractors began getting ready for the project Monday and expect to complete their task by June 21, weather permitting.

Bossier Parish Police Jury highway department workers are currently involved in a pair of upgrade projects on high traffic roadways. Rough spots are being dug out and overlayed on the western end of Swan Lake Rd. while one lane on Airline Dr. north of its intersection with Swan Lake is being replaced with a new base and surface.

Work has been completed on the Sligo Rd. bridge spanning Foxskin Bayou and the road is now open to traffic effective immediately.

Contractors for the Bossier Parish Police Jury began Monday demolishing the bridge on Sligo Rd. spanning Foxskin Bayou to make way for a new structure. Sligo Rd. is closed roughly one mile west of its intersection with La. Hwy. 157.

Shovels of dirt were turned by Gov. John Bel Edwards and a number of dignitaries a couple of months ago to signal the ceremonial start of the I-220 extension onto Barksdale Air Force Base. On Monday, heavy equipment began clearing a roadway and moving debris by the truckload.

Motorists will no longer have to take the long way around to drive from Airline Dr. to I-220. Contractors opened the new Swan Lake Rd. bridge over Flat River Tuesday afternoon in time for the opening of school.

Sligo Rd. will be closed beginning Monday, August 12 while contractors for the Bossier Parish Police Jury begin rebuilding bridges over Fox Skin Bayou, approximately two miles west of the intersection with La. Hwy. 157.

Residents in one high traffic area of Willow Creek subdivision won’t be seeing large trucks on their streets after the Bossier Parish Police Jury passed an ordinance prohibiting such vehicles from using the neighborhood as a detour route.

Improvements to the drainage where Kingston crosses Willow Chute Bayou has been completed and the roadway connecting Airline Dr. and La. Hwy. 3 was declared open to traffic shortly after noon Saturday.

It’s official. A contract was signed and notice to proceed was issued Wednesday to mark the beginning of a $71.8 million project that will construct a new access road into Barksdale Air Force Base from the I-20/I-220 interchange east of Bossier City.

It’s official. Bossier Parish now has just over 20 million dollars available for parish road and bridge repairs, and to purchase additional water systems, beginning almost immediately and continuing through 2021.
