On November 15, state, parish, and local leaders attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a new road that will connect two highways in the Town of Haughton.
Haughton Mayor Kim Gaspard and town representatives hosted the Department of Transportation and Development’s (DOTD) ceremony for the new Highway 157 and Highway 3227 intersection project. The nearly 4.2-million-dollar project plans to connect Highways 157 and 3227 just east of the existing intersection.
“These two roads are the key to what is getting ready to happen in the Town of Haughton,” said Mayor Gaspard. He said a developer already has plans to develop the 70 acres of land that will have access to the new road.
According to DOTD, preliminary work has begun in the form of clearing and grubbing ahead of the utility relocation period, which SWEPCO anticipates will last 5-6 weeks. Additionally, asphalt patching work on LA 157 was scheduled to begin November 13. They say motorists should be prepared for possible delays and slow-moving traffic while this work is underway.
Louisiana State Representative Dodie Horton, newly elected State Senator Adam Bass, Bossier Parish Police Jury President Doug Rimmer, jurors Glenn Benton, District 2, Bob Brotherton, District 1, and Parish Administration Butch Ford attended the ceremony.
