Construction on a new entrance to Barksdale Air Force Base from the I-220/I-20 interchange is moving ahead, with an expected completion date later this year. Following construction, painting and sandblasting reportedly will continue into early 2022.
Motorists are reminded to watch for notices of lane closures while construction is underway.
Once the $90 million project is finished, an entrance/exit on the eastern side of BAFB will connect drivers to I-20 and I-220.
Bossier City and Bossier Parish dedicated $3 million each to the project, and another $12 million came from the North Louisiana Council of Governments. Louisiana came up with the balance through GARVEE bonds, marking the first time the state has used the bonds.
