Anyone in south Bossier Parish who may be wondering where all those vehicles are going just about every weekend should look no further than the police jury’s park and athletic complex on Caplis Sligo Rd.
Warren Saucier, director of parks and recreation for the police jury, told police jury members that the South Bossier facility “...is really rocking and rolling. Every weekend we have something going on.”
Saucier said the Midsouth Athletic League of junior football teams occupies three fields each Saturday for games. That league is composed of teams from Bossier City and Shreveport, and from Tyler, Texas and Texarkana.
Sunday sees two fields in use by soccer teams for games, scrimmages and practices. And Saucier said, lacrosse is scheduled to begin this weekend, weather permitting.
South Bossier has also been the location of numerous cross-country meets featuring local and out-of-area squads.
“We’re keeping up with the maintenance at the park and despite the rains the fields are in good condition,” he said. “In fact, the area that is most worn is along the sidelines where the fans gather to watch the games. Crowds are always large.”
Parish Engineer Butch Ford and Director of Public Works Mark Coutee will soon be on the move in the parish to inspect roads, bridges and drainage while preparing the 2021 maintenance and repair program.
Ford reported to the police jury that during heavy rains the past few days parish ditches and drainages were keeping the water flowing.
