Posted: Mar 6, 2025, 3:50 PM

BPPJ with the “Hat Trick”

The Bossier Parish Police Jury has been honored with the Louisiana Worker's Compensation Corporation’s (LWCC) Safest 70 Award for the third consecutive year. This achievement was announced by Dr. Ken Ward during the regular agenda meeting on March 5.

To commemorate this occasion, the LWCC will present the Jury with a plaque next month. LWCC, a leading workers' compensation provider in Louisiana, serves nearly 20,000 companies and is dedicated to excellence in underwriting and providing lifelong care to injured workers.

Palmetto Road Widening Proposal

The Police Jury has approved proposals from two right-of-way appraisal companies for Phase II of the Palmetto Road Widening project, which will extend from the 911 Center north to Vance Road. According to a recent North Bossier Parish Capacity Assessment report, Palmetto Road should be expanded to five lanes between Kingston Road and the 911 Center and three lanes from the 911 Center to Vance Road. These improvements are designed to accommodate the anticipated increase in traffic in the area.

Progress Update on Caplis-Sligo and Smith Road Bridge Projects

Eric Hudson, P.E., Parish Engineer, updated the jurors on the ongoing progress of the Caplis-Sligo Road Bridge project. He reported that all piles for the new bridge have been driven, marking a significant milestone. However, recent high-water levels from heavy rain have caused delays in other areas of the project. The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) anticipates that the bridge will be completed and open to traffic by summer, just in time for the new school year.

Additionally, Hudson noted that the Smith Road Bridge project is in its initial stages. Although the contractor has yet to mobilize assets to the site, preparations are underway.
