State Senator Adam Bass, District 36, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality Secretary Aurelia Giacometto, and Mark Juneau, NWRO Regional Manager for LDEQ, held an informal meeting with BPPJ staff and Police Juror Doug Rimmer.
The meet and greet was organized to help Secretary Giacometto share her vision of modernizing and streamlining the permitting process throughout the state, which can help bring more business to Louisiana. “We’ve done it from our perspective. Now I need buy-in from the businesses because they work with permitting, and I want to know what we have not thought of and what works well for them,” said Secretary Giacometto.
Parish Administrator Butch Ford briefed the secretary on how Bossier became the first parish to consolidate both water and sewer lines, fueling the rapid growth of the parish.
District 8 Juror District 8 Juror Doug Rimmer highlighted the pressing need for surface water to drive the parish's growth and foster economic development. “With the persistent depletion of the Sparta aquifer due to the growing reliance on well water, we need to look to the current and future surface water sources to meet forecasted demand for residential and industrial requirements,” said Rimmer. Mr. Rimmer believes this will certainly impact the existing and planned industrial development at Camp Minden and elsewhere in Bossier Parish.
