On Tuesday, November 14, Bossier Parish Administrator Butch Ford and Jessica Hemingway with the Bossier Chamber of Commerce spoke at the Town of Plain Dealing regular town council meeting on measures they can take to improve property standards.
"I am here to tell you that the parish is willing to help you all in any way we can to help you develop your property standard guidelines," said Ford to the mayor and the five council members present.
Ford believes Plain Dealing is positioned to grow with the construction of the new Teal Jones Group lumber plant just south of town. He says now is the time for officials to begin the process of cleaning up and clearing out the old homes and buildings in the town. "Raising the standards raises the expectations for people who may want to move to this part of the parish," said Ford.
The lumber plant's estimated price tag is more than $110 million, which is expected to create more than 100 new direct jobs.
