A hefty donation to the Bossier Parish police jury's recreation department is going a long way toward improving several athletic fields at South Bossier Park.
Sierra Frac Sand, located off Old Plain Dealing Rd. near Plain Dealing, is giving 400 tons of frac sand to help parish recreation director Warren Saucier in his efforts to keep playing fields at the facility in the best condition possible.
"We're using the sand to top dress the athletic fields where football, soccer and lacrosse teams play. This helps level the field and fills in cracks in the ground. It will provide a base that's good for the grass and actually makes the ground softer," Saucier said. "In two to three years you'll really notice a difference."
Even more improvements are planned for the South Bossier complex. In August, the police jury gave approval to three cooperative endeavor agreements with the state, one of which gives $75,000 for four new athletic fields at the park, located off Caplis-Sligo Rd.
