Plain Dealing library visitors and patrons were introduced to a StoryWalk recently, an event designed to promote physical activity and literacy, plus generate interest in the library and its programs.
Abigail McAlister, FCS Regional Coordinator and Associate Extension Agent – General Nutrition for the LSU AgCenter Northwest Region, joined library staff members to present the StoryWalk, a deconstructed book display on signs along a trail covering the perimeter of the library.
In addition to the walking trail, visitors had the opportunity to leave notes telling the good things about living in Plain Dealing, and what might be done to make it a healthier community. Youngsters also participated in games and an obstacle course.
In addition to the StoryWalk, the Plain Dealing library plans a busy July with special community-oriented events, according to Library Branch Manager Tanika Johnson.
On Tuesday, July 12 at 2 p.m., versatile magician The Amazing Geebo will bring his magic and comedy act, consisting of fun, laughter, and life lessons. This show is beneficial and entertaining to the entire family. All ages are encouraged to attend.
Tuesday, July 19 at 11 a.m., Abigail McAlister will return to demonstrate a few of her favorite sheet pan meals and gives tips and tricks for these quick and easy dinner time favorites. Samples and taste testing will be included. Registration is required for this event and seating is limited.
Later that same day, beginning at 2 p.m., Ms. McAlister will host a fun, interactive children's workshop on summertime snacking. Samples and taste testing will be included. Registration is also required for this event due to limited seating.
