An open house Thursday presented by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development introduced area residents to a proposed project designed to improve safety at one of the parish’s busiest intersections.
Two alternative plans were displayed to help reduce the number of vehicle crashes and the average vehicle waiting time at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 80 and Bellevue Rd. One alternative creates a restricted crossing U-turn while the second adds additional lanes to side streets at the intersection.
Both alternatives are designed to show identical improvements along U.S. 80. Traffic and safety analysis by project engineers show no impact to residences or subdivisions in the area during the construction phase.
According to the DOTD, the project is currently in the feasibility study phase which typically takes one year to complete.
Individuals who were unable to attend the open house may view handouts and displays by visiting the website Environmental (la.gov). Also available on the site is a comment form. To ensure any comment becomes a part of the official meeting record, forms should be received by April 10.
