Bossier Parish Libraries has been awarded the prestigious Beacon of Hope Award in recognition of their five-year partnership with the Volunteers of America of North Louisiana.
Community Engagement Librarians, Andrea Gilmer and Kristin Kennedy, received the award at the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on February 22.
“It was a special day honoring individuals and groups in our community who inspire us with their dedication and love for our ministry and those we serve,” said Volunteers of America of North Louisiana in a social media post.
Bossier Parish Libraries visits many community groups each month, including the Bossier Lighthouse, to bring library services directly into the community. These programs focus on science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and literacy initiatives.
Libraries also make the parish-wide summer experience program, where participants earn prizes for meeting reading goals, available to all parish residents.
“They (librarians) have been an asset to the students of the Bossier Lighthouse in not only bringing the library to them physically, but mentally as well,” said Shawn Reynolds, program coordinator for Bossier Lighthouse. “They continue to show our students endless possibilities and challenge them to open their minds and see the potential inside of them.”
“We love working with, and bringing library services, to the kids at the Bossier Lighthouse because it helps build connections that fulfill the library’s mission and vision to inspire and strengthen our community,” Gilmer and Kennedy said.
