A little inter-governmental cooperation, especially among law enforcement agencies, often goes a long way toward solving a problem.
When Louisiana State Police troopers found themselves without the necessary tools to calibrate portable scales used to weigh big rigs hauling heavy equipment and materials, a call to the Bossier Parish Police Jury’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) provided the solution.
“Their scale press wasn’t working, so they called us. We had purchased our scale press some time ago from the state police, so there was no problem in quickly getting the troopers back on the road,” said Russell Craig, CVEU Commanding Officer.
Craig said portable scales, like those used by the parish CVEU, are required to be calibrated periodically.
Officers from Region 3, which includes Troops E, F and G, brought their portable scales to the CVEU headquarters in the parish courthouse annex. Region 3 encompasses 29 parishes from the Texas state line east to Mississippi and from Alexandria north to the Arkansas line.
