Representatives from public bodies and agencies in several northwest Louisiana parishes heard updates Monday from Veneeth Iyengar, Executive Director for Broadband and Connectivity, on efforts to attract broadband service providers to underserved and unserved residents in the state.
Iyengar said money was still available through the state’s GUMBO (Granting Unserved Municipalities Broadband Opportunities) plan, and outlined steps to attract potential providers in areas where need has been established. He also urged public bodies to continue to engage providers who present plans in their areas.
Former Louisiana State Sen. Gerald Long, representing U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, said the recent infrastructure bill that passed the U.S. House has provisions that will add another $100 million to states for broadband services.
