Bossier Parish Libraries will host a groundbreaking celebration Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. to mark the beginning of construction of a new Central Library and History Center. Ceremonies will be conducted at the site of the new library on the corner of City Hall Dr. and Beckett St. in Bossier City.
Bossier’s central library has long outgrown its current building located on Beckett St. The current facility is three buildings that have been pieced together over the past 30 years and no longer meets the needs of growing communities in Bossier Parish. Designed to meet the community's growing needs, the new library complex has been carefully planned through community input and needs assessments conducted over the last few years.
Features of the new library include much-needed spaces such as a large-capacity, multi-functional community meeting space, more computers and technology equipment, study and research rooms, and designated spaces for teens and children.
A new history center will feature interactive exhibits highlighting Bossier history that will create a destination attraction for locals and tourists alike. Money for the new $9.2 million library and history center project will come from regular library funds.
