Winter Weather Advisory

Posted: Feb 14, 2021, 10:48 AM

Forecasters with the National Weather Service (NWS) have released information on the winter storm expected to hit Bossier Parish and northwest Louisiana this weekend and to continue into next week.

Below freezing temperatures are expected for the area from Sunday afternoon through Friday. Record cold temperatures forecast late Monday night with a low of seven degrees for the Shreveport Bossier area.

Bulk of anticipated precipitation should occur Sunday night into Monday morning with two to four inches expected, including sleet and snow for Sunday through Monday only. Accumulation amounts are being reevaluated and the NWS said those could be increased with the accumulations possible on Wednesday and Thursday.

Daily forecast breakdowns include:

  • Sunday: 6 a.m. -- freezing rain and sleet.
  • Sunday: 12 p.m. -- freezing rain and sleet
  • Sunday: 6 p.m. some snow north of the area.
  • Monday: 12 a.m. -- snow.
  • Monday: 6 a.m. -- snow heavy at times.
  • Monday: 12 p.m. -- snow.
  • Monday: 6 p.m. -- snow possible
  • Tuesday: Break from precipitation; some above freezing temperatures then temps below freezing in the night and early morning.
  • Wednesday into Thursday: wintery mix snow, sleet, freezing rain.
  • Wednesday night through Thursday: any moisture left on roads and bridges will refreeze causing road issues

With the cold air temperatures and below freezing conditions, ground temperatures are dropping from 50 degrees F. on Tuesday to 44 degrees F. Thursday, 41 degrees F. Friday and 40 degrees F. Saturday. These conditions create problems on all roads and bridges with the possibility of accumulations of winter precipitation.

Drivers should expect roads and bridges to ice with this event Sunday into and through Monday. Icing on roads and bridges should also occur Tuesday through Thursday, and possibly into late Friday.

Ice accumulations could also be a problem on power lines and trees if accumulations through Wednesday and Friday remain due to cloudy and cold conditions.

Bossier’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (BOHSEP) will be in contact with the NWS and any change in the forecasts will be announced.  BOHSEP also reminds parish residents to check on neighbors and to protect people, plants and pets.
