Keep Bossier Beautiful volunteers removed almost 10,000 cigarette butts from five high traffic intersections in Bossier Parish near the vicinity of Lamar digital billboards. The educational media blitz “Keep Your Butts in Your Pants” was displayed for 30 days and 500 free pocket ashtrays were distributed to smokers.
Data from the successful project will guide future projects. An educational grant awarded by Keep Louisiana Beautiful for the 2020-2021 Healthy Community Grant Cycle provided funds and impetus for the project.
Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Inc. is the state’s anti-litter and community improvement organization focused on education, enforcement, awareness and cleanups. Without support from Keep Louisiana Beautiful this work would not have been possible.
Plants and wildlife are also damaged by cigarette butt litter and toxins as they move through waterways and are often consumed by aquatic wildlife. Not only are natural resources damaged by cigarette butt litter, but economic development and tourism are hindered.
If visitors notice trash in our city, they will perceive that residents don’t take pride in their city and keep driving.
