DOTD to Replace 2 Highway 80 Bridges

Posted: Oct 31, 2019, 5:36 PM

Work is scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 4 on a $4.2 million project to replace a pair of bridges on U.S. Hwy 80 over Fifi Bayou just west of Haughton’s Tall Timbers subdivision.

According to an announcement from the state Dept. of Transportation and Development, winning bidder Specialty Trackhoe & Dozer Service, Inc., is scheduled to begin the preliminary work phase of the project.

During the preliminary phase, traffic on east- and westbound U.S. 80 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. This traffic configuration is expected to last approximately 30 days, DOTD reported.

Both the east- and westbound bridges will be replaced, beginning with the scheduled removal and replacement of the eastbound structure. A crossover road will be constructed, allowing one lane of traffic flow in each direction.

A similar configuration is planned during the westbound bridge replacement. Additional traffic shifts will occur as the project progresses. DOTD will issue further MyDOTD notices as work moves forward.

Plans call for the replacement project to be completed in Spring 2021, with progress dependent on weather conditions. Motorists are urged to be aware of construction crews and equipment, to obey posted speed limits, and avoid distracted driving.
