In early 2020, no park yet exists at the chosen site just off Kingston Rd. at its intersection with Fairburn Ave. But a master plan has been approved that will place the park on either side of Fairburn, the road that provides access to both Kingston Elementary School and the new Benton High School.
Plans call for a lengthy walking trail winding through beautiful shade trees (that will remain), along with relaxation points and picnic areas. This area will be constructed on the east side of Fairburn. A small bayou running along the eastern boundary of the planned area will be retained.
On the west side, a circular walking track is planned and, perhaps, playground equipment will be added to accommodate younger children. This portion of the park will occupy approximately two acres.
A large subdivision and a number of apartments are within walking distance of the planned park. Work on the area could begin sometime in 2020.
