Haughton Fire Dept. upgraded by PIAL

Following a thorough review by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL), the Haughton Fire Department’s Public Protection Classification has been upgraded from Class 3 to Class 2 effective July 10. PIAL reviews are conducted every five years.

“The town of Haughton is growing at a rapid pace and we as the fire department must do our part to protect the lives and property of this community as it grows,” said Fire Chief Jimmy Holland. “Receiving a Class 2 rating is a great achievement, but we must continue to improve and grow our department to maintain and improve this level of service.”

PIAL determines ratings by examining each community’s fire department for department operations, staffing, training, equipment and maintenance, fire apparatus and maintenance, community risk reduction, fire code enforcement, fire safety education and fire investigation.

Also considered are the community water supply, fire hydrants and maintenance of the water system. PIAL also looks at the local communication system for emergency reporting, number of dispatchers and their training.

Holland said in addition to the residential and commercial insurance premium savings, citizens can have peace of mind that their department is progressing and moving in a positive direction.

“I want to thank the community for their support and the fire fighters on the line for the work they do every day to serve the community of Haughton,” he said.
